I always enjoy a wedding at The Piersland, staff especially Martin are always fab. Alan and Carly’s wedding was fab. Alan booked me (well thought he booked me) on recommendations of a couple of his employees. He owns the Timber shop. Anyway he had phoned, enquired and never got back to me until a month before the wedding saying they thought they had booked, luckily I still had the date or I would have missed this great day.  They popped up to my summerhouse studio for a chat beforehand,  Carly was a bit shy and at first had decided she didn’t want any photos at prep but I was going to go anyway and take some photos of her girls and some of Alan.

I arrived at the Piersland in Troon and Carly was very excited and happy for me to take photos of prep! Which was great as it meant she got more comfortable with me as the day went on. This is one of the reasons why I enjoy doing wedding prep photos as it ends up feeling that I’m just there having a good natter and laugh. There wee Pomeranian made an appearance and stole the show!

They had a lovely ceremony with a few tears and plenty of laughs conducted by John Tonner, and then everyone headed outside to enjoy the beautiful weather and get group photos. We also got fab couple photos using the lovely gardens at the Piersland with no need to go elsewhere.

Speeches were funny and dinner was top class. We even got a cracking photo of them when a rainbow appeared in the garden. For the reception they had the Xfactor contestants the McDonald brothers who got everyone up from the start of dancing!

A Magical Day at Enterkine House: Alix and Scott’s Unforgettable Wedding

Last year, I had the pleasure of photographing Alix and Scott’s wedding at the stunning Enterkine House near Ayr in Ayrshire. It was an extra special occasion for me as it marked my first time capturing moments at this venue since its refurbishment, and to top it off, it was slated to be my busiest wedding of the year with the most amount of guest.

Knowing Alix’s sister, the talented makeup artist Georgina, added an extra layer of honour to the experience. Being asked to be a part of such a significant day in their lives was truly heart-warming.

The day kicked off with the bridal party getting ready in the charming Gatehouse. Linzi, from “Don’t Stress the Dress,” took charge of the dresses, ensuring everything was perfectly steamed and organised. The excitement was palpable as the girls transformed, and soon they were ready to make their way to the bridal suite, we all had a good laugh.

The ceremony, led by David from Devotion, was an emotional affair. Scott’s heartfelt tears and the genuine emotions shared between the couple set the tone for the day.

Despite the unpredictable Scottish weather bringing some rain, we managed to capture beautiful group photos outdoors, showcasing the love and joy radiating from the wedding party. Fortunately, the rain couldn’t dampen the spirits, and we were able to sneak out for some intimate couple shots after dinner.

The reception was nothing short of magical. The speeches were emotional and entertaining, setting the stage for the highlight of the evening – a surprise performance by the bridesman Sean. The impromptu musical showcase added an extra layer of joy, getting everyone in the mood for the fantastic party that lay ahead.

As a wedding photographer, being part of Alix and Scott’s special day at Enterkine House was an absolute honour. The venue’s elegant charm, coupled with the warmth and love shared by the couple and their guests, made it an unforgettable experience. Here’s to Alix and Scott, a couple whose love story will undoubtedly be cherished for a lifetime.

Rachel and Callum // Burns Monument // Rowallan Castle

Discover the magic of a whirlwind wedding as Rachel and Callum prove that planning a dream celebration in just a few weeks is not only possible but also unforgettable. Step into the enchanting tale that unfolded at Rachels’ family home, where I captured the behind-the-scenes moments of preparation. After that I headed to meet Callum and his best man at the Burns Monument, Callum and his best man. The heartfelt ceremony, expertly conducted by Marie, featured touching speeches from Rachel’s sister and uncle, creating a truly special atmosphere.

The celebration continued at the picturesque Rowallan Castle at the Glasshouse Restaurant, where we seized the opportunity to capture stunning photos amidst the beautiful grounds – some of my absolute favourites. If you’ve been following me on social media, you may have already caught a glimpse of these captivating moments. The rest of the day was filled with a blend of emotional and humorous speeches, a delightful cake cutting ceremony, and a few more memorable photos to round off the festivities. Join me on this whirlwind journey that Rachel and Callum embarked upon, proving that love can be celebrated in style, even on a tight timeline.  I asked them what they felt of their photos on their wedding day, you can read it below –

What was your biggest fear before hiring me? Did it come true, and if not, what happened instead?”

We didn’t have any fears about hiring we were just nervous about being in front of the camera, but you made us both feel so relaxed and comfortable!

What, specifically, was your favourite part of your wedding, and why?

We decided to keep our wedding just close friends and family and a group of 45. I’d say looking back at everyone after being announced as husband and wife was probably my favourite part.

Was photography at your wedding comfortable, and relaxed?

Absolutely, I didn’t want any posed or awkward photos. I’d asked for group family ones to tick that box but then for just casual candid ones of Callum and I and we both commented after how we felt so relaxed. It was so nice to just wander about and have a conversation and banter with Karen sometimes you forget you’re being photographed!

If you were to recommend me to your best friend, what would you say?”

I already have and I’ve said because your whole booking process was very streamlined and simple, you were great with the kids we had at the wedding and you kept everyone in order. You helped Callum and I keep calm and we both felt very comfortable getting our photos taken. We’re over the moon with how our photos look and they were back a lot quicker than we had expected which was great!

Can you tell me your favourite photo and why?

I have a few but I’d say either the black and white of us leaning either side of the arch or any of the ones of us in front of the old castle. I just think they look so cool and classic and exactly what I had imagined in my head!

I make no secret that the Waterside is one of my favourite venues, maybe because its because I photographed my second ever wedding there and had such a brilliant day but I can honestly say I have never not had a great day at the Waterside. The staff are great and a big shout out to the fabulous Rebekah who with Gemma and Darren’s wedding had just got into her new role.   As we all know the Scottish weather can be so unpredictable, but (and I am scared to write this) every wedding I have photographed at the Waterside we have have managed to get out at some point in the day. I think this is mainly due to where it sits in the west coast and the winds move the clouds.  But even if its raining there’s still the light and airy Ailsa lounge for you photos and one of my favourites is the glass corridor outside because your guest can stand in there for photos while I am out in the rain!

Now on to Gemma and Darren’s wedding it was April, but a beautiful day and we couldn’t have wished for better. Gemma got ready in the Atrium and then we moved in to the honeymoon suite. Lovely to work with Nadine Grant MUA again as it had been a while. The morning was chilled and we all had a good laugh, this is what I love about weddings!  Ceremony was lovely and Gemma said her  favourite part was

‘My favourite part of my wedding day would probably have to be just after the ceremony having our pictures taken. We where so lucky with the weather as it turned out to be a scorching day and our guest could relax in the sun having a drink listening to some music and having pictures taken. I also loved before the meal listening to everyone’s speeches 🥹🥰 ‘Their speeches were so funny! Even with a homemade wee film which was fab! Acted out by the kids. I just love how creative people can be and its also refreshing when they aren’t just copied from google!   Their bridesmaid  also sang them a song in the ceremony which was beautiful and the video is my most viewed on tiktok to date! Overall they all had a great day and the love for each other and their family was shown throughout the day and I really think the photos show the love story of their day.

Nestled in the heart of Scotland, Dalmeny Park, a part of the prestigious Rad Group, set the stage for Sharon and Jack’s dream wedding on a breathtakingly beautiful sunny day. As a wedding photographer, stepping into the Dalmeny for the first time was a delightful experience, and little did I know that this day would unfold into a picturesque celebration of love.

The bridal room at Dalmeny Park provided a serene haven for Sharon and her bridesmaids as they prepared for the day ahead. Laughter, excitement, and the gentle hum of anticipation filled the air. Meanwhile, Jack and his groomsmen arrived early, allowing for some charming candid photos before the main event.

The ceremony unfolded in the newly built ceremony room, offering a panoramic view of the gardens. Bathed in the warm Scottish sunlight, Sharon and Jack exchanged vows in a ceremony that was as heartwarming as the weather. The inclusion of a handfasting ritual added a touch of tradition and symbolism, weaving their destinies together in a beautiful union.

Stepping outside after the ceremony, the gardens of Dalmeny Park provided a stunning backdrop for group photos. The joyous atmosphere was palpable as friends and family gathered, celebrating the newlyweds under the clear skies. We then moved to the side gardens for intimate couple photos, capturing the essence of their love amidst the natural beauty of Dalmeny.

Back inside, the reception room echoed with laughter and heartfelt speeches that added a touch of humour to the evening. The room, adorned with elegance, set the stage for a lovely dinner where guests indulged in culinary delights. The joy of togetherness filled every corner of the room.

As the sun began to set, casting a warm glow over Dalmeny Park, we seized the opportunity for more photos. The changing light created a magical ambiance that perfectly complemented the couple’s radiance. Sharon, in her stunning dress with an overskirt, looked like a vision of elegance, and every snapshot was a testament to the beauty of their love.

Sharon and Jack’s wedding at Dalmeny Park was a day of love, laughter, and unforgettable moments. From the intimate ceremony to the joyous celebrations, every element came together seamlessly. As the day drew to a close, I couldn’t help but feel grateful to have been part of such a magical celebration at Dalmeny Park, a venue that effortlessly blends natural beauty and timeless elegance. May their love story continue to unfold in the chapters that lie ahead, as radiant as the Scottish sun that witnessed the beginning of their forever.

“Capturing Yorkshire Love: Abbie and Zach’s Gretna Green Wedding Adventure”

Nestled in the historic charm of Gretna Green, Abbie and Zach’s love story unfolded against the backdrop of Gretna Hall Hotel. As an Ayrshire photographer with a penchant for the west coast, I found myself venturing into the heart of Gretna for the first time. Abbie and Zach, a delightful Yorkshire couple, chose me to capture the magic of their special day, and it was an honor that left me both excited and nervous.

A Unique Choice: From Yorkshire to Gretna Green

Abbie and Zach’s love brought them from the scenic landscapes of Yorkshire to the historic charm of Gretna Green. Their decision to tie the knot at Gretna Hall Hotel set the stage for a day filled with love, laughter, and unforgettable moments.

The Perfect Match: Choosing an Ayrshire Photographer

Despite having a photographer included in their wedding package, Abbie and Zach were drawn to my work and decided to book me for their special day. It was a humbling experience to know that my photography resonated with them, but it also came with a mix of excitement and nerves as I aimed to exceed their expectations.

A Beautiful Ceremony at the Coach House

The Coach House at Gretna Hall Hotel provided a picturesque setting for Abbie and Zach’s heartfelt vows. Against a backdrop of historical charm, the couple exchanged their promises, creating memories that will last a lifetime.

Charm in Every Frame: Photos in the Coach House and Gardens

Following the ceremony, we explored the Coach House and the hotel’s enchanting gardens for a series of intimate and joyous photos. The lush surroundings and historic architecture served as the perfect canvas for capturing the essence of Abbie and Zach’s love

Chasing the Golden Hour: Magical Moments in the Evening Light

Post-dinner, we ventured out to make use of the enchanting golden hour light. The soft, warm glow cast a magical spell, illuminating Abbie and Zach in a radiant haze. These post-dinner moments added an extra layer of romance to their wedding album, creating a visual narrative that mirrored the warmth of their love.

Abbie and Zach’s Gretna Green wedding was a celebration of love, filled with unique moments that reflected the beauty of their connection. As an Ayrshire photographer stepping into the heart of Gretna, I felt privileged to capture the magic of their day and contribute to the visual story of their love.

In the end, the nerves gave way to joy, and the honor of being chosen by this Yorkshire couple became a cherished memory. Abbie and Zach’s journey from Yorkshire to Gretna Green, captured through the lens of an Ayrshire photographer, stands as a testament to the timeless allure of love and the artistry of wedding photography.

“Love Unveiled: Emma and Paige’s Magical LGBTQ Wedding at Fairfield House Hotel”

Emma and Paige’s wedding at the Fairfield House Hotel in Ayr was a day. Stepping into the world of LGBTQ weddings is always a joy for me as a photographer, and this celebration was a magical blend of love, excitement, and personal touches that made it truly extraordinary.

Fairfield House Hotel, a venue I had the pleasure of visiting for the first time, has recently come under the care of the RAD group. Exciting transformations are in the air, promising a fresh and updated look, including a makeover of all the rooms. The perfect backdrop for a love story as unique as Emma and Paige’s.

The day began with the anticipation and excitement of getting ready. Paige prepared for the momentous occasion at her parents’ home, and I had the privilege of capturing those intimate pre-wedding moments.

As the scene shifted to the Fairfield House Hotel, Emma was greeted with a heartwarming and thoughtful gift from Paige – a personalised number plate, a unique and personal touch that spoke volumes about their connection. It’s these special moments that make each LGBTQ wedding a singular and memorable experience.

The talented Kymn Larcrombe, serving as the Makeup Artist, added an extra layer of glamour and elegance to Emma’s radiant look. Despite the less-than-ideal weather, the love between Emma and Paige shone brightly, and we ventured down to the beach to capture moments that will be cherished forever.

One of the standout features of Emma and Paige’s celebration was their enchanting Harry Potter-themed wedding. From snitches as favours to house-colored snacks, clever signs, and even a Lego Hogwarts, every detail reflected the care and attention the couple poured into making their day uniquely theirs.

Surprises continued to unfold as I discovered the charming gardens next door to the Fairfield House Hotel, providing an unexpected and picturesque backdrop for more stunning photographs.

In the end, Emma and Paige’s wedding was more than just a ceremony – it was a celebration of love in all its forms, a testament to the idea that love knows no bounds. As a photographer, capturing these moments is not just a job; it’s a privilege and an honor to be a part of such a special day.

Cheers to Emma and Paige for letting their love shine brightly and for allowing me to be a witness to their beautiful journey. May your love continue to grow, and may your days be filled with the same magic that surrounded your wedding day.

“Invest Wisely: Why Choosing a Wedding Photographer Based on Quality, Not Price, Matters”

Planning your dream wedding involves countless decisions, and one of the most crucial is selecting the right photographer to capture those precious moments. While it may be tempting to opt for the cheapest option available, choosing a wedding photographer solely based on price can have its pitfalls.

In the world of wedding photography, the saying “you get what you pay for” couldn’t be more accurate. When it comes to immortalizing the beauty of your special day, the quality of your photographer can make all the difference. Here are a few reasons why cheap is not necessarily the best when it comes to this essential wedding investment:

1. **Expertise Matters:** Experienced wedding photographers bring a wealth of knowledge to the table. They know how to navigate various lighting conditions, anticipate candid moments, and capture the essence of your unique love story. Years of experience, like the 12 years I’ve spent in the business, contribute to honing these skills, ensuring that your wedding memories are preserved flawlessly.

2. **Positive Reviews Speak Volumes:** Instead of focusing solely on the price tag, consider the photographer’s reputation. Reading reviews from other couples who have entrusted their special day to a particular photographer can provide valuable insights. Favorable reviews and testimonials often highlight not only technical proficiency but also the ability to work seamlessly with clients, capturing the emotions and joy of the moment.

3. **Word of Mouth Recommendations:** Personal recommendations from friends, family, or other vendors in the wedding industry can be invaluable. A photographer with a solid reputation is likely to have satisfied clients who are more than willing to sing their praises. Word of mouth recommendations adds a layer of trust and reliability to your decision-making process.

4. **Investment in Quality Equipment:** Professional-grade photography equipment doesn’t come cheap. A photographer offering services at a significantly lower price point may be cutting corners on the tools they use. Investing in high-quality cameras, lenses, and lighting equipment ensures that your photos are not only beautiful but also stand the test of time.

5. **Attention to Detail:** A seasoned wedding photographer understands the importance of capturing both the big moments and the subtle details that make your day unique. From the glint in your eye during the vows to the delicate lace on your dress, attention to detail is key. Choosing a photographer based on their portfolio and commitment to capturing these details ensures a comprehensive and visually stunning collection of memories.

In conclusion, while budget constraints are understandable, investing in a wedding photographer based on quality, reputation, and experience is a decision you won’t regret. Your wedding photos are a timeless reminder of the love and joy you shared on your special day, and entrusting that responsibility to a skilled professional ensures those memories are captured with the artistry and care they deserve.

There is so many choices when it comes to booking your wedding photographer, but what are the main things that you should look for?

Booking a photographer is an important decision for capturing special moments and memories of your big day. First off I would look for what still of photography do you like, bright, moody, dark, see what you are drawn to and start from there.

Here are a few things you should consider when booking your photographer:

  1. Portfolio: Take a look at the photographer’s portfolio to see their style and quality of work. Make sure their work matches your preferences and style you are looking for.
  2. Experience Check how much experience the photographer has in the type of photography you want.
  3. Reviews and Testimonials : Look for reviews and testimonials from previous clients, this gives you an idea of their reliability and professionalism. I would say 80% of my work comes from word of mouth
  4. Availability: Check if the photographer is available on your date and time you need them, lots of weddings are book about 2 years in advance. So if you have someone you really like better booking sooner rather than later to avoid disappointment.
  5. Prices and Packages: In this cost of living crisis budget is everything, does your photographer meet your budget? Remember after your wedding day all you have left is your photo’s and video. So think of your photography as an investment.
  6. Insurance: Very important! Make sure your photographer has liability insurance to protect themselves and their equipment.
  7. Contracts: Make sure you read and understand the contract before booking. Make sure you receive a contract as this not only protects the photographer but you as well. Its shoot state the details of the shoot
  8. Portfolio: Take a look at the photographer’s portfolio to see their style and quality of work. Make sure their work matches your preferences and the style you are looking for.
  9. Experience: Check how much experience the photographer has in the type of photography you want, whether it be weddings, portraits, events, etc.
  10. Reviews and testimonials: Look for reviews and testimonials from previous clients to see their experience with the photographer. This can give you an idea of their reliability and professionalism.
  11. Communication: Ensure that the photographer is easy to communicate with and responds promptly to your inquiries.
  12. Personal connection: Finally, make sure you feel comfortable and have a good rapport with the photographer. This can help ensure a successful and enjoyable photo shoot. I do offer a chat either phone, zoom or meet up beforehand. [See image gallery at www.ksimpsonphotography.co.uk]
